My private English lessons - part ３


One day, when I was having an English lesson,
Joan Hall and I started to talk about ghost．
We were talking about the difference between Japanese ghost and American　ghost．

I said to her,
"Joan, a Japanese popular ghost wears a white triangle hood on the　forehead．"
"An exhausted female ghost with a long hair will appear saying　urameshiya...."
.
I pretended as if I were a female ghost．
Joan couldn't stop laughing．
 
Soon, she was surprised at my ghost story．
Joan cried out and asked,
"Oh, no! You mean that the Japanese ghost doesn't have legs!?"
 
The crucial difference between American ghost and Japanese ghost is that　whether they have legs or not．
You can even see the cultural difference in how we visualize ghost．

Joan couldn't stop laughing.＝ジョーンさんは、大いに笑っていた
Soon, ＝その内　　was surprised ＝驚いた　　 crｙ＝叫ぶ
mean＝意味、ってこと　　legs＝足　　crucial ＝決定的な
have legs or not＝足があるかないか　　even＝でさえ
cultural ＝文化　　visualize＝思い描く
